Always look on the bright side of life (de dum de dum) May 18, 2007

When I was in high school, I wanted nothing more than a car. It didn’t have to be my own car, it could have been one of my parents’. I just really wanted a car to drive. It wasn’t until I was 19 that I had a vehicle to drive. It was my friend Brittney Love’s car and I got to drive it occasionally at Milligan when I needed to go to the doctor, the psych, church, or whatever. I still didn’t have my own auto that I could use whenever, but it was something, right? My senior year was hardest. I returned to the States and the last semester, most of my friends had already left – well the ones that drove automatics.
NOW I have a car! It’s not mine, it’s my parents. It’s a small Geo Prizm that looks like an old Camry. Of the four doors, only the back passenger has a working handle on the inside. The driver window has to be held up by a small wooden block shoved between the door and the window. The hood is held down by bungee chords. It’s got some rust and no muffler.

BUT

It takes 24 bucks to fill it up for a week!

$24 bucks!? Don’t let it out of your grasp!

Hey – I know what! Maybe you could hook up with that Xibit chappie (I have no idea how to spell that!)from ‘P*mp my Ride’ (one of my favourite programmes – don’t ask!).

Wouldn’t that be really cool?!

Oh how I long for the days when I used to be able to fill up my little Ford Escort tank for $24! Now my 10-ish gallon tank runs around $35 here in suburban Windy City…and I’ve heard it’s worse right in the city!
