QoTW: Character Analysis November 14, 2006

What character in a book can you connect with or relate to the most?

My favorite book of all time is The Great Gatsby. As much as I would like to chose someone else, if I am honest with myself, I am quite like the title character.
James Gatsby is every idealistic to the point of a fault. I’ve been known to idealize something so much, that when reality hits I refuse to accept it. My tattered text of The Great Gatsby is underlined almost completely, with different highlighters for different characters and quotes.

tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms further…And on fine morning – / So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past

Who isn’t nostalgic about the past, even a past that wasn’t good? I think perhaps the unhappy past receives the most nostalgia. What few memories of the a bad past that are good, they are embellished with a passionate hope for something that good again.

This is one of my all time favorite books too. I’m hoping we’ll read it in my book club soon!

I found a site for your job search:

Just read an ad looking for an ESL teacher/nanny in Moscow. Looks like it has a good salary, nice perks, etc. Unfortunately, you’d have to live in Russia (typically considered the worst form of punishment). Haha. Seriously though, there seem to be some good leads on there.
